Beginnings of the Front Hall Design

Last time you saw the front hall it looked like this, with a half painted wall.

Now it looks like this with some sweet beadboard!

(Did you also notice how the winter boots have been replaced with shoes?  Thanks goodness spring is here FINALLY!)

But surprise, it's not real beadboard!  It's paintable wallpaper that looks like beadboard.  From far away, and even up close, you can't tell the difference.  It just feels a bit spongy when you touch it.

We started by drawing a straight line across the wall where we wanted the paper to stop (I chose 34" high).

Then it was simply a matter of applying the paper and trimming the edges.  It wasn't the most easiest paper to work with.  Due to it's spongy nature, it shredded pretty easily if you didn't cut VERY VERY carefully.  We applied the wallpaper around all the walls in the front hall.  As it dried, the paper went from greyish to white.

Here it is once it all dried.  I plan on painting it white since it will help "firm up" the spongy texture and prevent it from being scratched and dinged up.

The chair rail along the top still needs to be added, and I have plans to put some hooks on the wall above. Here's a badly photoshopped image so you get the idea!

I love it!  I have no idea when it's going to be completed though!  I have a lot on my plate right now with a long-term job at school and 3 upcoming concerts, not to mention tutoring and IKEA.  There needs to be one more day in the week where we can just work on house projects!
